Random Encounter 10/5/2011

Hello my fellow nerds to another post of A Wild Gamer Appears! Please keep all arms, hands, and tentacles inside the vehicle at all times and to yourself. Tonight I bring you some sad news and some game news.

iRIP Steve Jobs

Apple reported earlier today that Steve Jobs, the genius behind Apple, had past away. Born in 1955 he has help create some of the most entertaining technology that a good number of people enjoy today. If you would like to send a message about the event the Apple site has an email dedicated to receiving messages. If you would like to shoot them an email send it to rememberingsteve@apple.com

Keiji Inafune to create new 3DS game

The man behind the popular Mega-Man series is hard at work creating a new game called King of Pirates. Not much is known about the game yet, but the word from Andriasang is that the game will be a multiplayer action RPG. The story seems to be that three races of creature people (or furries, whichever you prefer) are at war with each other to control the seas. From the games trailer it looks like there could be some good cut-scenes to follow along with this. There is no word on an American release but there already is an English website up for it so that should be a good sign. To check out the official site click this link.

You're not going to be able to carry much booty on that thing

EA sues fitness company over logo likeness

Seems like EA can't get enough of the legal drama (Surprised they haven't shown up for an episode of Law and Order). They are issuing a lawsuit against a Florida based company due to the fact that the logo is some what similar to their own. EA states that they've already tried to reach out to the negative ion folks and that they never received a response. Is EA going out of their way just to earn an extra buck, or do they have a legitimate case? It's up to the courts to decide now. To find out more info check out this Gamasutra article. (Also, props to Gamasutra for some what entertaining article name)
I didn't know Dr. Manhattan was into Negative Ion wrist bands

And that's all I have time for tonight folks, I'm hoping tomorrow I'll have my first impressions look at RAGE ready and available. Due to my work schedule it's hard to get things done the first few days of the week but I do have Thursdays and Fridays off to get more work done on here. Hopefully I'll have a logo up and running soon as well. Good night everyone and remember to stay out of the tall grass, you never know when the Wild Gamer will appear.

Random Encounter 10/4/2011 Plus the Conclusion of the Trainer Battle Challenge!

Hello ladies and gentlemen and welcome to another update to A Wild Gamer Appears! Tonight I will give you thrills, chills, and maybe a small case of the chicken pox. Unless you already had it as a child, in which case you are safe.

Gears of War 3 DLC to release in November

Not too long after the release of Gears of War 3 Major Nelson of Xbox fame has posted on his own blog that the hit shooter will receive its first download pack in November. The Horde Command Pack will feature upgrades to the popular Horde mode, including three new maps, three new characters, two new weapon skins, and new fortification upgrades all which will come at the price of 800 points. And for you achievement hunters out there the pack will give you the chance to get an extra 250 gamerscore points. To read up on this latest news check out Major Nelson's personal blog.

I don't get paid enough for this...

Infinity Blade II announced

The unveiling of the iPhone 4S today brought more than just high priced phones to the table. The news that the sequel to a popular iOS game would be released in the upcoming months. Infinity Blade II will bring more features and better graphics thanks to the iPhone 4S increased performance capabilities. Later in the day Epic released more details, including that the game will run on the Unreal Engine Three and feature a new competitive online mode for you to play against your buddies or random strangers. To find out more check out this 1up.com article

Blizzard teases new StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm units

Blizzard is known for their secretive nature when it comes to their games. So it comes as no surprise that when they want to show you a new unit for the upcoming expansion to StarCraft II, it comes as a silhouette. They have it posted on their Facebook page but there is very little information at this moment. To see more check out the official Facebook page for StarCraft.

New iPhone, is it just an update, or something more?

Apple finally let the cat out of the bag today and announced their new version of the iPhone, or should I say the new version of the iPhone 4? The iPhone 4S is said to be on a higher level than its predecessor, but what exactly does that entail? Well for starters the new phone uses the same processor as the iPad 2, the dual core bad boy that will allow this phone to operate much faster than before. Also the phone will incorporate a double antenna system that will allow you to download at about twice the speed as the last phone. Already the phone is showing more promise than I anticipated, so if you want to look more into the specs of the phone check out  the Apple website

iPhone 4S with SIRI activated, the new voice command program

Now to move onto the second part of the post. So as you all are aware of, I issued a challenge to my (limited) reader base to select either Rage or Dark Souls for me to do a First Impressions Trainer Battle on. And the winner of the challenge is...

Yes! It is indeed Rage! The shooter/RPG hybrid. So stay tuned guys, I'll be picking up the game tomorrow and give it a short play through and I'll post my thoughts on the blog. That's it for tonight guys and remember, stay out of the tall grass, you never know when the Wild Gamer will appear...

Random Encounter 08/03/2011

New Assassin's Creed confirmed to be released in 2012

If you thought that Assassin's Creed: Revelations would be the last of Enzio and Altair, then you would be right! Of course, this isn't the end for Desmond, seems like Ubisoft has one more game planned for him. The creative lead behind the latest game, Alexandre Amacio, has announced that there will be one more game for the memory jumping lad. To find out more head over to this IGN article.

This is the end my friend
PSN will now have exclusive game promotions, and PS2 downloads

Finally after years of fanboys complaining about lack of PS2 compatibility Sony has caved in and will now have wonderful PS2 games for download. The first few games that will pop up will be God Hand, Maximo: Ghost to Glory, Odin Sphere, Ring of Red, and GrimGrimoire. Also there will be specials for those who purchase lots, and lots... and lots of games over the PSN. To get more info check out this 1up.com page.

God Hand, good ole' beat em up action

Nightwing to be a DLC for Batman

It looks like fans of Dick Grayson will be pleased to hear that Batman: Arkham City will receive his costume alter-ego as a download. The reveal comes about the revelation for the Trophy list for the game, as it lists Nightwing themed achievements. To learn more about this development take a peak at Shacknews.

Zombie Apocalypse Sim Project Zomboid will show you just how unprepared you are

Who doesn't enjoy a great zombie game these days? Well judging by the tons of zombie games to be released in the past few years I would say that the population would be tiny for those who don't. Of course, these games are more about you and a group of buddies going around and butchering the poor undead. Project Zomboid would like to show you just how wrong this image is. Instead of teaming up with a friend your stuck all alone and not only that, you have to take care of your injured wife. So if your looking for a real challenging zombie game, Project Zomboid sounds like your ticket. Wanna take a gander at more info? Check out the Gamespy website to get your fill.

A game where it's fun boarding up your house!
Meta Knight has been officially banned from tournament play
Wait, I'm sorry, this is news? I thought he was banned a long time ago? Well apparently according to Smash Boards, one of the leading Super Smash Bros. websites, he has now officially received the boot. The post comes from AlphaZealot, the MLG Tournament Director, who states that the decision was difficult to make, despite the fact that the vote was 14-0 to ban him. To read the post in its full glory go to the Smash Board post to get the scoop.

Take that you winged spawn of Satan!

And just to remind you all that you have one more day to give me your vote in the Trainer Battle Challenge! Need to be reminded of the challenge? Yesterday I asked you all to email me one of two choices for a first impressions look at either Dark Souls or Rage! I'm taking the tally's in and tomorrow I will reveal what the pick is! Remember all you have to do is email me at wildgamerappears@gmail.com, put in the subject line for the email your pick, and hit send! At the end of tomorrow I will let you all know which game is the winner! Thanks for checking in and remember, stay out of the tall grass, you never know when the Wild Gamer will appear.
